Celebrities' charitable acts: Too public?

What do you think of American celebrities' highly publicized acts of charity toward developing countries?

I really think that it needs to be kept quiet. It's the charity that people appreciate, not the celebrities. When a big name is attached, I feel more revolted, because they obviously only did it for publicity.
