The best day of my life April 20, 2006, the day I got my driver's license. I'm going to be honest, this was the best day of my life. OK, maybe I'm exaggerating, but it at least makes it to my top 10 list of best days ever.
It's hard to believe a year has passed since that amazing day. I woke up nervous. Getting through the school day knowing that I was taking this fateful test just minutes after that last bell was torture. I remember all my friends shared their horror stories of failed tests, unfortunate accidents, and the meanest driving instructor, the one that I was positive I would be stuck with. As soon as school let out, my mom picked me up in her Mountaineer and I drove to the PennDOT, where I was scheduled to take the test. I was terrified for the parallel parking because I had never practiced with my mom's car, and I am terrible at parking in general. Nevertheless, that didn't matter now. It started easier than I expected, and slowly, I brought my heartbeat down to normal. My driving instructor turned out to be the nicest person ever. He was telling me stories the whole time and gave me exact instructions on how to succeed in the parallel parking section. We actually had a really great time, laughing away as he retold his own version of horror stories from some pretty terrible drivers he had to deal with.
When we finally returned to the starting point, he said those two words I had been dying to hear: "You passed!" could have cried. I was so happy! Ever since that most incredible day, my life has been changed. I cherish every moment I drive in my car.
