Dutch Springs

Last Saturday I joined my fellow Girl Scouts on a road trip to Bethlehem, PA. What's in Bethlehem, you ask? Well let's just say that we were looking for adventure. Needless to say... we found it.

We found it at Dutch Springs. I was so excited about my new experience that I felt the need to blog about this awesome place.

Our Girl Scout Troup #83 took a trip to Dutch Springs, an adventure park, to complete the badge, "Be Extreme!" Zero out of the four of us had ever rock climbed before, and so we sought out a place to try something very new. After being educated about rock climbing lingo (which was coined by the hippies), we were strapped into our very invasive harnesses. While a little bit uncomfortable at first, I knew that the harness would become my best friend.

With the help of our instructor, Jason, we successfully attempted to scale a 34 ft. rock wall. Boy, was that hard! Sadly, I didn't even make it halfway up the wall. We all worked as a team to keep the person climbing as safe as possible. We used a method called "belaying" which is where the person on the ground (the "belayer") helpsto tighten and loosen the rope attached to the climber. That was no walk in the park either. Just to give you an idea, my arms hurt the next day!

However, I absolutely loved rock repelling. It wasn't as easy as it looked, but it was definitely a bigger thrill than rock climbing. There was just something thrilling about "bunny-hopping" down 34 feet!

So in essence, I learned a lot about rock-climbing and repelling, tested out my climbing skills, and avenged my small fear of heights.

I definitely suggest checking out Dutch Springs. Besides one awesome sky climbing structure and "play" area, Dutch Springs also offers scuba diving (There is actually a sunken plane and school bus beneath the water!) and many other courses and activities to experience.
