Lots to learn at Lafayette

| | Comments (0)

Last year, if someone were to say the word "Lafayette" to me, I would have thought of Marquis de Lafayette, the French general and ally of the U. S. in the American Revolution. I would have had no idea there was a college named after him - in Pennsylvania, no less.

Not only is Lafayette College just a few hours away - about 60 miles north of Philadelphia - but it ranks 30th in U.S. News & World Report's 2007 list of best liberal arts colleges. Lafayette has a strong engineering program, and the math department is the largest on campus. If you're not interested in those programs, Lafayette will likely still have your major - there are 46 in all.

I visited Lafayette last fall. The campus is stately and spacious. The student body is small - about 2,400 undergraduates - so that means students get plenty of attention from the faculty. I'm surprised I didn't hear about Lafayette until late in my college search.
