Stress less over prom

| | Comments (0)

It's that time of year, the time when schools charge exhorbitant amounts of money for a dance, and girls spend even more on dresses, nails, shoes, and hair. But is prom really worth all this trouble?

I have discovered a way to save a lot of money on prom: worry less. True, there's no way to reduce the ever-increasing amount that schools charge for the tickets, but are all of the frills that girls pay for necessary? Remember, you're at a dance. Lights are dim, and you will be dancing around, getting overheated, having pieces of hair come loose, and realizing that after the first appraisal, nobody cares how much you spent on your look--except you.

Having professional-looking fingernails may be cool on the day of the dance, but afterwards, few will remember whether you had a beautician laquer your nails or whether you painted them yourself. Instead of stressing out as you look for the perfect dress, try putting together an ensemble out of something you already own. Gasp--recycling a dress? I know, it may seem like a travesty, but here's a secret: nobody really remembers what you wore to tenth grade homecoming. The refusal to re-wear a dress may earn you fashion points, but it will also cost you a lot. I'm even taking a leap this year and wearing...a skirt. I know, what a rebel. But on the bright side, other than feeling obligated to complain about how much my ticket cost, I will enjoy prom night knowing that I spent $0 on my outfit. And that feeling is a lot more comfortable than a spray-on tan.
