No need to hate on MySpace

| | Comments (6)

As an active part of the Internet generation, I think many teens can relate to my MySpace obsession. Most people, including myself, can honestly admit to spending hours online checking comments, new music or updating blogs.

MySpace.com is such a popular site with teens that it seems typical that adults and the media give it such a negative reputation. Many schools have banned any access to MySpace and similar sites. The news warns of the danger of revealing too much information.

Well, I would like to let all the MySpace haters out there know that having a MySpace page isn't as life threatening as the media makes it out to be. Sure, if you post your address or personal information, people can find you. But if you're cautious with what you reveal, you will discover the MySpace world has many positive attributes.

MySpace allows people to stay in contact when they would otherwise lose touch. I know I can always check up with my friends who are away at college with a quick stop at their MySpace page. The site has so many ways for people to show their individuality and creativity with quirky layouts and graphics. People can post blogs, pictures, comments and messages any way they want.

Some people don't realize how powerful a MySpace page can be.

A student at our school who died last year still has an active MySpace page. His close friends leave comments every day as a way to let him know they haven't forgotten how much he means to them. MySpace has truly revolutionized the Internet and I hope haters will start acknowledging that it isn't all bad.

Exactly. I'm so tired of this anti-MySpace crap that the media (and some people) spew.

Sorry, I forgot to add this to the previous comment. You can change MySpace to a different langauage, which can be helpful if you are practicing that language. For example, I'm getting a minor in French, so I set my MySpace page to French, so I can practice my vocabulary every time I log on.

oh wow i had no idea you could change languages..how exactly do you do that?

One you log in, go to the home page, click on international, and choose your language.

P.S. I think some of the people who hate MySpace are just jelous that they never had that when they were younger.

I am a mother of 2 teens and a 22 yr old and I love my myspace. I can express my individuality on it and also keep up-to-date with my kids and their friends. It's not just for kids!!

Did you know you can link to your myspace page under the URL box when you write comments? I do - click my name to try it!

Myspace is used for a TON of things other than just kids... like campaigning! lol. RON PAUL '08!!!
