A dog?

dogsmall.jpg

I was walking home from school today, as usual, when I saw something that startled me; a dog, lying in the grass along the rail trail. The dog was alone and didn't have a leash, but as I got closer I realized it was only was a statue. So I stopped to take a quick picture. A little later, I realized there was no plaque or wording explaining why the dog was there. It was a pretty neat thing to find, but it made me curious as to who put it there and why. If you're interested in seeing the real statue, I believe it is by the intersection at King Street and the rail trail.

Leah,

We ran a story about this in the paper in November. Dallastown sculptor Lorann Jacobs made it. The dog, Pal, belonged to Arthur Glatfelter and the both served in the military together, although on separate assignment.
Here's a quote from the story that pretty much sums it up:

"The City of York and several area residents, as a tribute to Glatfelter and Pal for their service during the war, and to thank the insurance-company founder for his many contributions to the York community, unveiled a sculpture of Pal during a Veterans Day program at the York Expo Center."

Now your dog mystery is solved!
