I am mad.
Well, I was mad. Last night.
And as you might guess, if I'm angry about something, it must have to do with physics...
Johns Hopkins's freshman registration for fall courses starts next week, so last night, I searched through the classes for something interesting.
I knew I was going to take the physics class for physics majors, and you bet I'm taking a math course.
So here's what I started with:
171.105 - CLASSICAL MECHANICS I MTWTh 11
110.212 - HONORS LINEAR ALGEBRA MTWF 12
Doesn't look bad. They're both 4-credit courses, and Classical Mechanics goes along with a 1-credit lab. So I had 9 credits covered.
Naturally, I wanted to take a philosophy course. Here are the three I found:
150.111 - PHILOSOPHIC CLASSICS
150.201 - INTRODUCTION TO GREEK PHILOSOPHY
150.235 - PHILOSOPHY OF RELIGION
And here is when they meet:
150.111 - PHILOSOPHIC CLASSICS MT 11
150.201 - INTRODUCTION TO GREEK PHILOSOPHY MT 11
150.235 - PHILOSOPHY OF RELIGION ThF 11
They all meet at 11, when I would be at physics class. How is a physics-math double major supposed to learn philosophy? I guess most don't. That's a problem only I would have.
But what about economics? I would enjoy learning that:
180.101 - ELEMENTS OF MACROECONOMICS MT 11
Psychology?
200.101 - INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY MTW 11
Political science?
190.101 - INTRODUCTION TO AMERICAN POLITICS TW 11
Somewhere along the line, as I found that class after class met at 11 (or 12 - I didn't even mention those) I said, "Grrrrrrrrrr". Really.

Jake,
Welcome to college scheduling. As you have now learned, the puzzle of scheduling classes is often harder than any class you have to take. As as a first semester freshman, I'd be surprised if you get ANY of the classes you want.
But anyway, my advice is not to expect to take the classes you want the semester you want. Don't worry, you'll get a philosophy class, but it probably won't be your first semester. Good luck!
