Bucks In Velvet

| | Comments (1)

It is summer time, and that means that the bucks of our local population of whitetail deer are in velvet.

This means that they are developing antlers, which are protected in a blood-rich tissue called velvet, a brown and fuzzy material that has an appearance similar to the fabric it is named after. It is a very remarkable thing to be able to see these fantastic animals at such a unique phase of their lives during this wonderful time of year. So if anyone is feeling the urge to drag themselves out of the air conditioning, take a nice long walk through the woods, and keep your eyes peeled for the elusive whitetail buck.
