Savor city’s Central Market

| | Comments (3)

centralmarket.jpegBehind large, bold green doors, just off the city streets, are some of York’s sweetest treats and one of the friendliest destinations the city has had for more than 100 years.

Located at 34 W. Philadelphia St., York, sits the Central Market House.

The market house first opened in 1888 and today is still a beautiful escape from the busy city streets, filled with a history you can feel from the moment you step through the inviting doors.

Central Market is home to many unique vendors, including places to grab a great cup of coffee, get any candy you could dream of, taste chocolates to die for, savor delicious ice cream, find seasonal crafts, order a great sandwich, find fresh local produce, go shopping for antiques, buy pottery or take a sip of some fresh-squeezed juice.

Settled under the tall, vaulted ceilings of the market house are many nooks and crannies, perfect for settling into, enjoying a snack and catching up with friends or family.

Central Market is open every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is a wonderful place for breakfast and lunch without spending a lot of money.

The atmosphere inside the market house is fun and friendly, with piano players serenading those in the market and Cherry Lane sitting just outside.

Many of the stands have been there for what seems like forever, providing a sense of comfort and familiarity, and others rotate constantly, keeping the market new and ever changing.

Central Market is the perfect place to support local vendors and contribute to your local economy. Just outside Central Market’s doors are many downtown shops offering enjoyable shopping for many.

There is metered parking surrounding Central Market, as well as the Beaver Street and Philadelphia Street garages available for parking.

Central Market is more than a historic building — it is the perfect place to celebrate old traditions and begin new ones. For details, visit www.centralmarkethouse.com.

Ahh, I love the market.

I used to go there all the time when I was younger. I was just there the other day. I love it!

I have to agree with the previous comments. I adore Central Market. You should have added something about the Eastern Market. It's not as historic, but it still is a great place to be!
