The Boardwalk

So... yesterday I went on a spur-of-the-moment trip up to Hershey Park with my family. It was my second time this week—on Monday, my last visit, it was chilly and rainy, so I didn’t get the chance to try out any of the new water “stuff.” The new attraction at Hershey Park, The Boardwalk, had caught my attention in particular.

Once we’d parked a million miles away from the amusement park, as usual, we stepped out of the van and got lunch ready before a fun-filled day. Or so we thought. The heat weighed down on us and the weather couldn’t have been more perfectly pristine. I couldn’t wait to rush into the new water park and splash my heart out.

We trudged through the massive crowd of sweaty and half-naked people running around as we passed the “Swim Suits Permitted” yellow hazard sign. And there it was! In front of us the sign stretched out in an arc, spelling out in colored, block letters, “The Boardwalk.” My little brother, Joshua, ran towards the entrance. The rest of us followed and then looked up in anticipation.

The winding, torturous tubes of brightly colored plastic shined in the sun. Water sprayed out from every angle and bend, and around the large water play-park were small pools and other water rides. Josh and I dived under a chain that led to the line for the water park. There was a surprisingly short number of people in front of us. The smiles around us flashed, and I couldn’t wait to get soaked. Then...

...the sky darkened in less than half a second, and a loudspeaker came on. “DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE BOARDWALK AND ALL OTHER WATER RIDES AND ATTRACTIONS WILL BE CLOSED...”

That was all I needed to hear, but the voice continued, booming out its unwanted instructions.

“...PLEASE EXIT THE BOARDWALK. WE WILL RE-OPEN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I REPEAT...”

And so, I never got on a single water ride, as I waited for the scattered thunderstorms that never came. Eventually, The Boardwalk opened up again, but it was far too dark and windy to enjoy any of its fun by that time.

Well, that’s life. I really can’t complain, because I still got to enjoy almost every roller coaster in the park for the second time that week. Life goes on!

I really like how you ended the first part of your post with "Then..." so we had to click to the extended entry to read what happened next. Nice suspense!

The weather wasn't great when I went, either. That's no fun.
