Dumbles Out at Last

So, J. K. Rowling let Dumbledore out of the closet: he's gay.

When someone asked the Harry Potter author at a reading in Carnegie Hall whether the late Headmaster of Hogwarts ever found true love, J. K. responded, "Dumbledore is gay." The audience gasped, then applauded. "I would have told you earlier if I had known it would make you so happy," Rowling said.

Rowling elaborated. Dumbledore was in love with Grindelwald, his friend-turned-dark wizard that he defeated in 1945. She said that Dumbledore's love was "his greatest tragedy."

Apparently, people have been speculating on this for years, but I have to admit, I did NOT see this coming. I applaud it, however. Rowling didn't make a big deal about it in the books, but she answered the question honestly when someone asked. To her, Dumbledore's sexuality is simply a character trait, not a key moral issue to argue over.

I was glad when I heard the audience applauded. Who thinks the world seems slightly more accepting?

Yeah, I didn't see it coming either. But to me Dumbledore is asexual...I never speculated on his sexuality...why would I? That doesn't make up who a person is or relate to the books.

Poor Dumby, though! Grindelwald didn't return the feelings...:(

That's really interesting..I wouldn't have guessed it.
