Blooming in Creativity

Many high school students try to earn extra money by working at jobs at fast-food restaurants or grocery stores.
Susquehannock High School senior Ashley May has a unique employment opportunity.

May works at The Treehouse Florist in New Freedom. At her job, she designs and puts together flower arrangements.
May said she enjoys putting the arrangements together and sees it as a way she can express herself. "I get to learn a lot, and it is such a break from every day chaos. I get to create and be artistic. It's a good outlet that can make people happy."
May designs flower arrangements for many different occasions. She arranges flowers for special orders, church services, funerals and weddings.
May especially enjoys designing the flower arrangements for weddings.
"Big weddings are my favorite. We get to go on site and see the bride and her bridesmaids. We get to be involved in all the flowers so it's really fun."
May said she always had an interest in flowers, which she gets to express every time she goes into work. "I can use the skills later in life to decorate my house."
May believes that The Treehouse Florist is the perfect place to work. She does not have to wear a uniform and her work usually only gets chaotic during holidays or weddings.
