Game on at LAN parties

A party for people to play video games?

Since the late ’60s, when games for Unix started to appear, there have been LAN (local-area network) parties all over the world.

At LAN parties, a group of people — usually dedicated, experienced gamers 16 and older — gather at a pre-determined place with their computers and food and stay up late playing video games together.

In York, there is a LAN party almost every week. Most are spontaneous and, therefore, small. Others take a bit of planning. One that took place at Zion Lutheran Church in West Manchester Township at the end of September was sponsored by the church and supervised by parents and other volunteers.

Red Lion has an official gaming center where LAN parties are held and hosted. Ltek Gaming (www.ltekgaming.com) has events almost every Wednesday, Thursday and weekends.
