The indie band Say Anything recently released the newest installment in its offbeat, often controversial repertoire of albums, "In Defense of the Genre."
The six-man group is known for quirky songs that play to the taste of artsy, independent spirits with love-life woes or rebellious streaks. However, the standout hit "Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too" became a hit with teens.

"In Defense of the Genre" is a convoluted mess in terms of musical arrangements, lyrics and emotions, but, nonetheless, a captivating mess. One song features a vocal section that sounds strikingly like Queen's early days, and another incorporates Cabaret notes that sound a bit cheesy, but fit with the band's image.
The band even incorporates religion into the mix with the song "Died a Jew," about the persecution of Jewish people from biblical times to present-day. Some lines in the song could strike a chord with people of all religions, which would be right on par for Say Anything.
All social cliques have music to identify with, and Say Anything creates anthems for the intellectual, artsy and quirky set with a gripe.
