Our journalism assignment: Write a column/editorial. Most people wrote about a school institution or policy that needs to change. I wrote about hell. Did I get the wrong idea?
Our teacher never specified what exactly we had to write about, so I took an entertaining slant and used the underworld as an example of how humanity fears what it doesn't understand. My teacher looked really worried when the guy proofreading my article said that the argument wasn't a clearly defined, major school issue.
So now I throw the question out to the masses: do all columns have to instigate change or question ideals? Or can some just be commentary?
As for my article, she may love it for all I know. I have to wait for the grade.

There are three things I stress to my writers.
1. The reader should learn something
2. It should make people think
3. Must apply to more than just the writer (aka a broader issue, the paper isnt for personal stuff).
Well I think it is a clever commentary. As long as it is written well and entertains, I don't see a problem with it. I can't wait to write for a college paper; they have more columns like the one you wrote.
I loved it. It was well-written and interesting. I thought it had opinion, it wasn't suppose to be an editorial. And I agree with Dylan, broader issues can also be good instead of always writing personal stuff. So good job being creative.
