'In Rainbows' recalls early Radiohead

Whether you're a fan of Radiohead or a first-time listener, the band's newest album, "In Rainbows," is definitely worth a listen.

For those who are fans, the album is a refreshing addition to the Radiohead family. For those who are new to the band, "In Rainbows" is a great first taste of their music. The album is similar to their earlier works, but not in a boring or repetitive way. The tracks contain the same type of electronic beats and intriguing guitar parts, but are all unique variations on that theme.

The first track, "15 Step" hits the listener with an almost stomping, syncopated beat as lead singer Thom Yorke's voice drifts into the song. Later in the album, songs start out with catchy guitar melodies that accentuate Yorke's melodic, eerie singing.

The song "House of Cards" starts out soft and slow, and eventually builds intensity. The sounds blend together well and create multilayered distinctive songs.

The songs on the album also connect very well. Each song is different, but they all relate to one another and posses Radiohead's signature style. The album also moves between fast and slow tracks, which helps keep the listener's attention. When listening to the album straight through, you will not become bored. Although the songs are similar to their earlier works, they are distinct.

Besides the album being musically pleasing, Radiohead uses very interesting lyrics. Most of the lyrics are abstract, and depend on the listener's interpretation, such as the song "Faust Arp". Others tell stories about love or denial. Yorke's singing style often makes the words hard to comprehend. There are a few times where the words can be clearly heard, but usually they are slurred together or echoed in ways that are not understandable

Overall, "In Rainbows" is a satisfying taste of Radiohead's style. Even if you've never heard their music, the album is a one of a kind, engaging experience for any listener.
