Spell the Word, Save the World

Have nothing to do? Here's a suggestion: Practice your vocabulary.

FreeRice.com is a Web site with a vocabulary game you can play. It gives you a
word and then four other words below it. One of those words is a synonym, and if
you select it, congratulations, you've just donated 20 grains of rice to the
hungry!

It's that easy. For every word that you get right, the Web site donates 20
grains of rice through the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to hungry
people in more than 75 countries. The nonprofit Web site uses its ads to
generate money in order to go out and buy the rice, which it donates to the WFP.

Basically, with just a few clicks, you're paying for somebody's meal.

So in the end, everyone wins out: Students get to practice for the SAT and
school, adults get to expand their vocabulary, and hungry people of all ages
around the world receive food. Not to mention that the game is actually rather
addictive.

You feel good when you know that you're doing something right.

Hey, it's time better-spent than playing computer games or watching stupid
videos on YouTube.
