Tykes' singing sparks nostalgia

| | Comments (0)

I must admit that I wanted to take a nap. After all, it had been a really long week. I had a quiz every day, I just started my SAT prep class and I had an enormous project in English. Singing in front of an audience was not my first-choice activity on a Sunday afternoon. But, seeing as I was in two choirs that would be performing, my presence was required.

Usually we wear our "holiday best" to concerts, but that day we could wear whatever we wanted because our outfits would be hidden beneath the dreaded powder blue choir robes. The robes smelled distinctively of body odor and mustiness.

Putting bad fashion aside, I have to say that the concert was actually enjoyable. It was a district-wide choral concert, with choirs from the elementary, middle and high schools performing. Not only were the little tykes from the elementary school cute, they were actually on pitch (what a pleasant surprise!).

Just watching the elementary schools perform made me feel old because it has been six years since I have sat in the same little desk all day and only had one teacher. And then when I saw the group from the middle school perform, I realized that none of them were in middle school at the same time I was. If I feel this old when I am 17, I can't imagine how I will feel when I am in my 40s and beyond.
