'Big Shots' a strike victim

| | Comments (0)

The good news? The writer's strike is over. That means more of our favorite media darlings like "Grey's Anatomy," "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost."

The bad news? Shows I grew to love during the strike are going off the air.

Everyone seems happy about the return of mainstream TV. We all complained heartily for the four months that we watched reruns, reality TV and shows we'd never heard of.

I'm not much of a TV fanatic, but toward the end of the week, I need something to take my mind off of the pressures of school and extracurriculars.

Consequently, I was in despair during the strike - until I found "Big Shots."

Don't get me wrong, "Big Shots" is not much of a showstopper. Four CEOs who have nothing better to do than romance women and eat brunch together? Laughable. Yet I found some humor and wittiness in that show that most primetime TV lacks. Other programs that aired during the writer's strike are subject to the same dilemma - what they lack in plot they make up for in originality.

Now that the writers are back, network executives have canceled "Big Shots" and other strike shows to make way for new episodes of blockbuster programs. I should join in the rejoicing. Instead, I find myself lamenting the mediocrity of returning shows. "Grey's Anatomy" lost its charm and sprightliness a long time ago. And as for "Lost" - time travel? Are they joking?

I'm bidding farewell to four CEOs that made me laugh for an hour every week while the "Big Shots" at the networks try to woo me with depressed doctors, island maniacs, and housewives who are too rich to know the meaning of desperate.
