Photos on Facebook and MySpace
There's been a lot of discussion the past couple weeks about students at York Catholic being caught drinking underage. Some of that discussion has revolved around the pictures posted to social networking sites of teens who appear to be at parties where alcohol was being served.
In an article in the York Sunday News, education reporter Nichole Dobo wrote: Experts say many teens don't realize why or how posting images online can hurt them. There are countless stories about young people losing jobs, internships or school privileges because of information they posted about themselves on Internet sites such as MySpace and Facebook.
The Daily Record received photos (sent anonymously) of teens at what appear to be drinking parties, with notes expressing that the sender hoped the photos would be published.
What do you guys think. Is it fair for jobs and schools to punish you for things published on your Facebook and MySpace accounts?
How careful are you when posting to these sites?

personally, i beleive that the school has absolutly NO right whatsoever to punish a student for aything outside of school, especially internet activities! if a student would talk to an internet predator through myspace, meet up with him, get raped and killed, would the parents of that student be able to blame the school? or sew the school? NO! So what gives the school the right to punish a student based on their pictures posted on myspace. They have no right. it is wrong & unjustifyable! It is against school rules to even access Myspace at the school. It's blocked anyway. So why can school staff access students' myspaces & punish students for total outside of school activity. If a student drinks outside of school, it has nothing to do with the school & they have no right to stick their noses in non-school related business of the students. The fact that schools even consider this reasonable blows my mind & is a total outrage! i am careful about what i post on myspace, & i don't drink, but I still believe this is TOTAL NONSENSE! Schools are not in charge of students durring out of school hours, but they sure are acting like our parents! =(
