Forever The Sickest Kids' Underdog Alma Mater

The emo/pop/punk genre is at an all-time high. And in most cases, it is bringing the music industry to an all-time low.

With most bands sounding identical, it is truly hard to tell the good and talented from the conventional. With this in mind, the debut album of Forever the Sickest Kids is sure to make even more people obsessed with the genre. With love-torn lyrics, catchy hooks, sweet melodies and electric choruses, this album is the epitome of the overdone genre of music the group is a part of.

Listeners can pick out different formulas that come together that make the album's music so addicting.

The vocalist, Jonathan Cook, has an undeniable voice and melodic tone like Justin Pierre, lead singer of Motion City Soundtrack. The turntable and techno effects in the songs on "Underdog Alma Mater" are reminiscent of bands such as Hellogoodbye and Metro Station.

Of course, the overall sound of the band can be compared to almost any other emo/pop/punk band around today, but for what it's worth, Forever the Sickest Kids are doing the genre of music justice with tight arrangements and worthwhile listening time, and they doing what they do better than most of the bands out there.

From the first track of the album, the listener can easily sing along and get up and dance. The album starter, "Whoa Oh! (Me vs. Everyone)," is stuffed with electronic sounds and one of the catchiest choruses I've heard in a long time. The album continues to feed off the opener, but falls short with dragged-out songs like "Coffee Break." After hearing the song, you'll need just that.

The energetic disc concludes with "Catastrophe" with lyrics like "Wake up, you're a drama queen/break out of the drama scene."

Overall, the band does not disappoint. The most notable thing about them is that their first album was signed with one of the biggest record labels, Universal Records. They should be proud of their first record, but more stoked about their potential.
