Apples to Apples the perfect antidote to boredom

The next time you're with friends or family and looking for something to do, try playing Apples to Apples.

The party game contains two different types of cards, and lots of them. It is easy to play and learn, which is great if you want to have players jump in and out during game play or if you have a lot of new players.

It can be played many ways. The basic way to play is this: Each player gets seven red cards which have different nouns on them. The nouns range from famous places to everyday objects to celebrities.

Then, each player takes a turn being the 'judge.' The judge picks a green card, which has an adjective on it. Each player must pick the card from his or her hand which he or she thinks the judge will choose to go along with the adjective.

The judge can decide however he or she wants - by which card is cleverest, most logical or most humorous. They then pick the noun they like most, and the person who put that noun in gets the green card to keep.

Depending on the number of players, you can play until someone gets five, seven or 10 green cards.

There are also variations. You can give each player seven green cards instead of red cards, so they pick an adjective for the noun. There is also a variation in which everyone knows who laid which red card, then each player can argue why their card should be picked over everyone else's.

As you can imagine, the game can get fun very quickly, and it stays fun because of the seemingly endless number of cards and different ways to play.

It's especially fun to play with large groups - the more players you have, the better! Card expansion packs are also available to increase the amount of cards in the deck, in case you want some fresh words in your stack.

No matter how you play or who you play with, this game will always be a hit.

I LOVE Apples to Apples! Once you're experienced you learn to play to the judge's personalities--my dad is a goof, so I always put down ludicrous nouns when he's judge, but my mom is logical and scientific so I always put down a noun that fits in with the adjective precisely.

Great review!
