Meet 'Mo'

A native Brazilian, Monnize Wolfe de Souza Sobrinho now calls Shrewsbury
home.
A 15-year-old sophomore at Susquehannock High School, Monnize is known
to her friends as simply "Mo." When asked what she is known for, she said she
can speak fluent Portuguese, play five instruments, compose her own songs and is
a member of a Christian band.
Q: When did you first leave Brazil, and where did you go?
A: My family left Brazil when I was 6, and then we moved to Nebraska, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and then Pennsylvania
Q: What is the biggest perk of being able to speak fluent Portuguese?
A: Being able to understand some Spanish and French and translate for people who do not speak it.
Q: When did you first decide that you wanted to create your own songs?
A: Back in fifth grade, a guy told me that I could do it from my poems that he read, and he showed me his studio.
Q: Where do you draw your inspiration for your original songs?
A: Things that happened to me or a friend, and my parents and church push me.
Q: Who would you most like to be stuck in an elevator with?
A: Matthew Perry. He would make me laugh, which would comfort me.
Q: What advice do you wish you knew three years ago that you know now?
A: Even if you don't know a person, you can still make an impact on his or her life, so always be a good example.
Q: What has been the most memorable day/night of your life?
A: It was my band's first concert, back in January.
Q: If you wrote an autobiography about your life so far, what would you title it?
A: Newbie. Because I was always the new kid.
Q: What's one piece of wisdom you can share?
A: Be sure you know your own values before someone else can change them.
