The word "hero" means something different to everyone. To me, a hero is someone who can be looked upon as a role model because of their actions, words and overall morals.
As a soccer and volleyball player, I have encountered many influential coaches. But in my mind only two exemplify the qualities necessary to be my heroes.
One is my varsity volleyball coach at Susquehannock, Rob Marrison, who has been my coach since I was in seventh grade.
He has always known exactly what to say on and off the court. During a match, he knows how to make me focus and stay calm. Off the court, when my life goes haywire, I know I can turn to him for support and advice. There have been numerous occasions where I would need to talk to someone outside of my own family, and he would immediately come to mind as the right person.
Like Coach Rob, Jen Rohrbaugh is also my hero. I met her last year when she began teaching and coaching at Susquehannock. Last season I really got to know her both on and off the court. She proved to be a tough coach, but more importantly, a caring person. When I had a crisis in my life, she was the first person I told outside of my family.
She reacted with great concern and care. I know that Coach Jen is always there for me, and that I can turn to her with any problem whether it is a life crisis or a simple chemistry calculation.
