Refereeing helps soccer skills

Susquehannock High School senior Micah Collins has a very impressive record.
He is an involved student at Susquehannock and participates in many school activities including varsity football as the punter and kicker and varsity soccer as the goalie.

Refereeing soccer has provided Micah with an opportunity to improve his knowledge of the game and allows him to get experience working with people who might not always agree with him.
Q: What is your favorite thing about refereeing?
A: "I enjoy chuckling to myself inside when parents complain about a call but have no clue what they are talking about."
Q: How many hours a week do you work as a referee?
A: "I usually ref three games a weekend, which is about five hours."
Q: How much does this job pay?
A: "Anywhere from $20 to $40 each game, depending on the age level."
Q: What is your least favorite part of the job?
A: "The drive to the games can get pretty long."
Q: What is the most memorable experience you have had in soccer?
A: "My most memorable experience was making it to the National Final Four with my club soccer team, FC Delco, two years in a row. Nothing can top that feeling you have when you win a big game."
Q: Who is your biggest hero or role model?
A: "My role model for soccer has always been Oliver Kohn. He's the best and most intense goalkeeper I have ever seen."
Q: What are your future plans for after high school?
A: "I want to play soccer for a D1 level program. I am looking at Penn State, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech. I want to major in biomedical engineering, but one of my goals has always been to play soccer professionally."
