For all the girls that think that "Twilight" is some big idea that will turn into something along the line of "The Notebook," I think that you're wrong. Even though I haven't ever read the books or know any of the charatchers I shouldn't be judgeing. But to me it doesn't look all that great.
Twilight comes out next weekend. Ugh

Judgeing? How about judging.
It keeps getting better and better.
AND twighlight? AND charatchers?
Use spell check.
AND..........
You used the wrong "you're."
It's you're for "you are", not your.
YOUR bad English is not ceasing to amaze me.
Well, at least I agree that the whole Twilight phenomenon is absolutely ridiculous. I saw the trailer the other night and I was like just like, "And WHY are people so obsessed with this again?"
WHY don't you think the Twilight phenomenon is that great? Did something push you over the edge? Do your friends talk obsessively about it over the lunch table? Is your little sister sporting vampire fangs around the house?
I don't disagree with your general point; on the contrary, I rolled my eyes as soon as one of my friends summarized the series for me in 30 seconds. I'm just challenging you to have background knowledge of your subject and defend strong statements with supporting reasons rather than simply saying "it doesn't look all that great."
I'm trying to figure out if you're attacking me or Melanie, but I'm going to assume me.
I wasn't planning on making my comment a full-fledged essay on why I think Twilight looks stupid. But I suppose I do need to defend my point.
What gets me is that the ideas of it are cliche. Vampires seem to be the "in" thing now. Tons of teenage girls are screaming over the oh-so-perfect Edward Cullen. The whole plot started with the typical "normal girl gets whisked away into some crazy fantasy world." It's all been done.
I admit that I haven't read the books, but in a fit of boredom, I did read the summaries on Wikipedia. It seemed like a bunch of teenage drama to me, and the trailer I saw turned that drama into straight-up MELOdrama. I've also heard from several people that the writing style is mediocre, which doesn't surprise me. Just look at Dan Brown's books - interesting plot, but uninteresting style.
Don't get me wrong, I love immersing myself in perfect fantasy worlds every now and again, but the obssession some people have with this series is kind of...scary. As in "pathetic scary" and "creepy scary."
So those are my reasons. Have you read them, Laura?
Ariel, Laura cited Melanie in this case, not you. But I fully agree.
Twilight is in the same realm as High School Musical or Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers, where pre-teens obsess over a fictional character, thinking that this character represents perfection. I think it encourages teens to try to emulate one kind of image or find a certain kind of boyfriend/girlfriend that doesn't even exist. There's a fine line between enjoying reading to delve into another world and thinking that that other world, which is so airbrushed to begin with, is real.
Oh, I thought it was me because she capitalized "why," but now I see what she meant... Ah, well.
I completely agree with you, Marybeth. That's the exact same reason I can't stand Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers as well.
I was citing Melanie, although I didn't mean to "attack." But you both bring up several good points.
And no, Ariel, I haven't read them. The summary my friend gave me was enough, so I'm in the same boat as you =) I see no point when I know it wouldn't be up my alley.
Twilight is nothing like Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers.
It's a love story about a girl and a vampire falling in love.
They aren't singing about living double lives, or going to a camp with a bunch of aspiring singers and dancers.
IT IS NOTHING LIKE THEM!
I think that you guys should read the book before you say things about it, because I wasn't going to read it for the simple fact that it didn't seem to be something that interesting, but when I did read it .... I finished it in 2 days because it was that good and grabbed my attention.
IT WAS THAT GOOD!
IT WAS INCREDIBLE!
