For some teenagers, photography is for capturing memories to last a lifetime.
For others, photos are for updating your default picture on MySpace and Facebook.
For Kelsey Shearer, a senior at Spring Grove Area Senior High School, it is so much more.
"It all started when I was in 10th grade," she said. "That's when I got my first digital camera and got really interested."
Shearer, 18, began taking lots of pictures, gathering inspiration from people around her.
"I saw cool pictures other people took," she said. "And I thought 'I want to do that.'"
Before long, she ditched her old digital camera and made an (expensive) investment in a Nikon D40 DSLR.
"It's my baby," she said about her camera.
It's a good camera for those who are just starting out. It's also good enough for professionals, she said.
Her Nikon comes with a tripod and an assortment of lenses, including wide-angle and macro.
Shearer even started her own photography business, Supersonic Photography (myspace.com/supersonicphotos).
The name originates from the song "Supersonic" by her favorite band, Family Force 5.
To date, she has shot engagement photos and senior portraits, as well as "some random stuff" of her friends and Mother Nature.
As senior year progresses, she will look to further her education with online classes. She has been looking into New York Institute of Photography (NYIP.com).
Whatever school or program she chooses and wherever her life might lead her, she knows photography will be part of it.
"I really want to be a photographer," she said. "It's my passion."

Kelsey's photos display more than just captured images. Her images reflect her thoughts, passion and creativity. I especially appreciate the images that display her faith and insight into the spiritual side of our lives.

Kelsey took engagement pictures for my fiance and I, and they turned out AMAZING! She has a great eye and is extremely creative. She is truly gifted. When I show off our pictures, people can't believe they a high school senior took them!
