Dear John Puts New Outlook on Love

| | Comments (0)

I don't know if I will ever look at the moon the same way again. That's how powerful "Dear John" by Nicholas Sparks was. It's about two people trying to find love, facing times good and bad, just hoping to make it work.

If you want a book that will pull at your heartstrings, then you should definitely read this 2006 novel.

The story revolves around John, who is in the army and home on leave visiting his father. He is on the beach when a girl drops her bag into the rough ocean. In a heroic move John can't quite explain, he jumps in and saves the bag. When he gives it back to the girl, there is an instant connection. After only a week, they seem to have fallen in love. They promise to keep in touch as John goes back to Germany, along with a promise to look at every full moon to remember the time they had spent together.

I don't want to give too much away, but I will tell you that over the next few years, their relationship becomes hard and they pour their hearts into keeping it going.

If you are a crier, be prepared for a sad ending.
Sparks does a great job putting real feeling and true love into this book. It is definitely a tearjerker. Although more of a girl book, I'm sure that anyone with a sensitive heart would enjoy it. What I took from this book is that love isn't necessarily being by someone's side every second of the day, but by making sure they are happy no matter what.
It is a thick novel, but a pretty easy read and such a good love story you won't even notice the length.
