CROCS- what were they thinking ?

Recently, my mom purchased a pair of Crocs to help cushion her feet. While I understand her reason for the purchase, I just cannot fathom their popularity.

Now, do not get me wrong; I applaud those who can pull off the rubber clog look. However, I must admit I've never found a pair attractive and I doubt I ever will. Honestly, I'm baffled as to why people flock to the nearest store for florescent fashion nightmares.

My belief is that there is a happy medium when it comes to fashion and comfort. Perhaps an L.L. Bean sandal or a padded walking shoe? With these selections why would anyone choose the synthetic deathtrap?

If the rubber and sickenly bright color options weren't enough, you also have pins known as "Jibbitz" that can be purchased and placed on your Crocs! Just think, now you can personalize each and every shoe as if it were a charm bracelet.

Furthermore, to those who are more fashion forward, Croc now offers an array of heels and wedges for a night on the town. Please! To the proud owners of Croc products, I offer my most sincere apology regarding their naive belief that plastic shoes are cool.

I would agree with most of your opinions on crocs, particularly the original. Yet resently they have come out with new styles that are not nearly as bad! My mother owns a nice pair, they are styled like a sandle and look nice. You could not even really tell they were crocs. She wore them in Italy and they worked out very well. They were comfy and on rainy days the did not get messed up or ruined like mine did. If you look hard enough you might find crocs that are not so loud in bright colors or jibbitz.

I wear my Crocs for there actual true purpose, working in the yard. I Don't wear them to public places but I do like the flip-flop looking ones. A shoe is a shoe, and when I wouldn't wear Crocs to most places, they are comfortable. And what matters more: Fashion or Comfort?

And the "Jibbitz" may be a bit on the edge, but it gives little kids something to do to personalize their shoes, and come on, kids only live once. All I know is that you can choose what you want to wear because we live in America.

Other than that though, good article!

I completely agree with you Madison! I think Crocs are fine for around the house, but I cannot stand it when people wear the insanely bright ones in public! However, I heard a rumor that the Crocs company went bankrupt and is shutting down. I definitely hope so.

First off, I would like to thank you all for your opinions, dialogue and feedback.
While I do agree with you Theresa on the fact that newer styles are more appealing, I stick to my belief that there are much more flattering options to choose from. However, that is not to say that people's taste in shoes may not differ from mine.
Also, in reference to Matt's statement "what matters more: fashion or comfort?” I would like to say that both are equally important when it comes to shoes. Therefore, as I stated above, many companies offer a more refined look to their footwear.
Furthermore, while Jibbitz to offer a unique way to personalize shoes; they are really just useless pieces of plastic that will be weathered with age. Do you honestly think that little Tommy should choose a charm for his shoe rather than an actual toy? Come on! Perhaps if he was looking for a way to get beat up at the playground.
Lastly, Yes Matt we do live in America, land of the free. There are so many wonderful shoe options out there for all ages, so why do people settle for quirky, Canadian, rubber clogs?

As a side note, I too heard the rumor that Crocs was closing and I’m with you Katie, I can not wait!

I am i total agreement, and cannot for my life figure out why people are attracted to crocs. Madison, you were completely right when you accuratly described the shoe, and there are other options for footwear. Finally, why would anyone want to decorate their shoe with Jibbitz, they are just tacking and a total fashion don't.
