Cooking up some reptiles

| | Comments (0)

Every year, usually at the end of the summer, Kreutz Creek Valley Library holds a reptile day. The staff schedules a reptile expert to come in and teach kids and parents about the unique creatures and how we can protect them in our enviornment. As a volunteer of the library for many years, I try to know exactly when this day is so I can stay away. Why? I'm deathly afraid of snakes. This year, however, I couldn't stay away.

No, it wasn't the urge to conquer my fears. It was because the library decided to hold a cake decorating contest in honor of the animals, a contest I've been wanting to try for a long time. The task was to create a cake with a reptile theme. Six delicious desserts were entered, and mine won third place. Everyone complimented me on it. A few people asked if I make them professionally or would make them for kids' birthdays. I felt so pround of my hard work after the let down of only getting third place. Do I think I deserved first or second? Well, I sure would have like that, but that's not the point. You can decide for yourself on that one. Not only did I get to taste some tasty cakes, but I did make it to part of the program. I can't say the snake didn't give me the jitters, but it didn't freak me out like I thought it would. Even though I only entered the contest to make a cool cake, I did learn that reptiles are pretty unique and fascinating creatures.
