Apparently, we all planned to get sick.

Half empty classrooms, the sound of coughing fills each room, and hushed talk of who'll be the next to have swine flu; these are the things that my day contained.

I must be oblivious, because I didn't have any friends who skipped school because they wanted to close it for a week. Would you like to know why? Because none of us were naive enough to think that was true, and none of us wanted to come back for a week in the summer. I had ten people in my English class today, in a class which usually has 18 people. The field hockey team had to cancel a game because half of them were sick. Do we see a pattern? Central York has a flu problem.

I personally am one of the lucky few who are avoiding catching the flu from those who come to school sick. People who come to school functions sick, such as homecoming, are the reason nearly 25 percent of my classmates were absent today. Contrary what the school district told reporters, this had nothing to do with some freshman trying to get people to skip school.

So Central students, drink your orange juice, cover your cough, and avoid sick friends; but don't worry we don't have a flu outbreak. Apparently, we all had planned to get the flu so we could come back for a week of school over the summer.

HA! This is great stuff!

I don't know about you, Morgen, but I would so much rather be stuck in bed, with a fever of 105 degrees, snot-rags all over my bed and floor, coughing fits, sneezing sessions, and headaches that make you feel like your brain is Hiroshima being hit with a Hydrogen Bomb, than have a week of summery bliss, where the sun is bright and warm, school is a thing of the past (for about 12 weeks) and you wake up at noon everyday, because of the simple fact that it's summer.... and you can.
Yes... The flu is something I definitely wish upon me right this minute... x

You go Morgen! As the mother of a 10th grader who is home, very sick and on Tamiflu, I was angered to see such an irresponsible article by YDR. There are children across the country DYING from the flu, and it is worrisome enough without seeing lies printed. God Bless all of the children who are sick with this flu, and protect all those who are well.

I feel as though it's pretty sad that the YDR has started to become a newspaper filled with gossip and rumors when there are much larger problems that should be addressed in a newspaper. It's pathetic that even Central York faculty members think we are faking.

Whoever thinks that most administrative adults are morons, prejudicing teens, raise your hand... mine is up.

You all rock!!! I'm no longer walking Central's halls but when I heard that YDR was calling my former classmates liers I was not a happy camper. It is just like various other happenings where the asinine actions of a few students ruined something for the rest of us. Maybe 10 people thought it would be fun to outsmart the system, but that is the exception to the rule, not the rule!!! Central's faculty should realize that students showing up at homecoming, where breathing and sweating all over each other is common practice, would cause more sickness than usual. This is not rocket science, and Central students are not liers. Keep on keepin' on friends!

Thank God we all have flu. Because we all wanted to be sick. It was just plan. Yeah I know the kid who started the rumor. His name is rhinovirus. He's a germ. One of the many that got us sick. So until you realize we are sick then our school has lost it.

I am the mother of daughters who are a Senior and 10th grader at Central. My 1oth grader is home sick with a temp of 103.6. The thermometer doesn't lie. These kids are sick and how dare YDR help spread a rumor about a serious disease that is effecting our children in great numbers. How about we focus on reporting about social distancing when sick, proper hand washing and what are serious signs to look for if you are sick!
