At 6 am on Friday morning, President Obama got a phone call informing him that he was to be given the Nobel Peace Prize. You would think this to be happy moment for Americans as a whole, right? Things didn't happen that way. Obama was given the Nobel Peace Prize for "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples", quoted from the Nobel Foundation website. Many people are asking "What has he done?" Well obviously those people haven't been around the last few months. Obama has changed the world's overall view of Americans. He's become the most traveled president in United States history. If you listen to his speech in Berlin, his speech writers did a beautiful job of portraying his goals for peace.
I don't consider myself an Obama 'fan', but I support my president because he's all we've got for now. All of those who are angry and bitter about Obama's receiving of this award, get over it. Its not doing anyone any good for you to bring up the location of his birth certificate or dwell on your disagreement with him being awarded.

Sorry, but I'm about as left-wing as you can get and I think Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke......
He's the President during a time where our military is occupying two countries and is bombing the sovreign nation of Pakistan. Get the troops out of the Middle East and then we'll consider a Peace prize. But as of now, it's not only laughable but kind of disgraceful.
I consider myself a liberal, and I'm not really a fan of Obama, but all in all what does it do for the country if we all sit around griping about our President not deserving an award? I don't think you understand the concept of why he got the award. The war is Bush's doing, not Obama's, just saying.
Let me start this off by saying that I am not technically an Obama supporter, just a supporter of our president. I am not 'as left-wing as you can get' and I am not right-wing. If it were up to me there would not be a party system. But that is another argument for another day.
I agree, Obama should be congratulated for this prize for a multitude of reasons.
What seems obvious to me is that our president won the Nobel Peace Prize is positive thing for the country and a huge accomplishment for Obama as a citizen in and of itself. Nevertheless, the majority of Americans attempt to take away from him by saying he doesn't deserve it. The President is now being forced to defend an award he received, an award he did not campaign for, an award that is usually received with honor.
Secondly, Obama won the award for foreign diplomacy. Anyone actually following the news will see that Obama has done an amazing amount of good things in the countries outside of America. The majority of the world's opinion about America has changed because of Obama. If this isn't enough for the peace prize, there's more.
Finally, 'Diplomatic Talks' with other countries are actually working. Obama is a great speaker, and is doing great things to ease tensions in the middle east.
It may be a little early, but as Obama himself said, this is a call to action. This is a reason for Obama to try even harder to succeed as president. We as American citizens need to stand up and support our leader, even if we don't necessarily agree with him.
I understand all the points raised. I just see it as laughable that a President can win a "peace" award in a time where the military is stationed in two countries and is currently bombing Pakistan. In addition, there have been talks of sending more troops into Afganistan. This should be enough to disqualify anyone from a peace prize. Just my two cents though.
