POY wins ‘Silver and Gold’

Saturday January 30, 2010 The Pentecostals of York’s Senior Bible Quizzing Team traveling to Webster, PA for a practice tournament. On York Team A is Katie Hook, Janet Cabbell, and myself. On York Team B is Katherine Grimaldi, Kristina Peters, Emilio Pichardo, and Matthew Saylor.
It was about a three and a half hour ride to Webster, and we were all excited and nervous. So nervous and excited that we all fell asleep. We left at 6 a.m. and barely got any sleep that night so we were pretty tired.
Fortunately the lack of sleep didn’t hinder our Bible Quizzing skills. Team A went undefeated winning first place and York Team B won second place only losing twice to York Team A.
Bible Quizzing is where a certain number of verses from a specific book of the Bible are memorized for the bible quizzing season. This year’s book is Acts.
I have memorized about 70 verses so far. By the end of the season, I will have learned over 500 verses of the book of Acts.
I joined Bible Quizzing for many reasons. The main reason why I joined was because I really wanted to study the word of God and grow closer to him. I can say that Bible Quizzing has really done this for me. As I memorize these verses I keep them “hidden in my heart” (“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalm 119:11.).
When I am feeling a certain way, or just need some comfort, I think of the verses I have memorized and what they mean. My two favorite verses are:
Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Acts 2:17 “And it shall come to pass in the last days, said God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:”
