“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” That is a quote from Steve Jobs and that is how I live my life. This is obvious from all my decisions, such as how I choose my pets, what I eat, how I spend my time, and what career I am pursuing. If you spent time with me, you would understand me better. If you spent the day with me, you would meet my little black dog, Crazy. When you first walk into our house, she would jump up and put her head under your hand until you petted her. She is a rescued dog, so she never gets tired of any and all attention that is given to her! She is just one of my pets. I also have a turtle, a gecko, and two chickens that I adopted two years ago when they were just tiny little chicks. The whole house would be filled with pets, if it was up to me! I am a passionate believer in animal rights and, consequently, a vegetarian (see “Making a Difference Three Times a Day”).
As you walk through my house, you will pass a lot of my art. In this time when everyone is talking about saving money by cutting the arts, I am an artist. I believe that we need art, because that is how we express ourselves. I have my own art and art that I have collected from artists when I travel. I believe in supporting artists directly and while they are still alive. If I invited you over, I have probably cooked something for you, so our first stop would be the kitchen. If you try my vegetable tetrazzini or one of my favorite salads, maybe I could persuade you to at least begin thinking about a more vegetarian lifestyle!
But let’s not waste time in the kitchen. Let’s go to my bedroom. That is where you will learn the most about me. My bedroom is both organized and messy at the same time. My clothing is divided into strict categories, but it is not uncommon to find a sweater thrown across the top rack or a pair of jeans laying on the chest at the end of my bed. My jewelry is organized in a jewelry armoire and my books are organized by height on my bookshelf. What you cannot help but notice in my room is my makeup. Makeup artistry is a passion for me. I used to be hesitant to tell people about my great desire to become a makeup artist, because I felt that everyone expected me to become a doctor, a lawyer, or an engineer. Now that I have accomplished some pretty cool things such as being the sole makeup artist for the entire cast of the music video “The Game” and working with Robin Fredriksz, the professional makeup artist for Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Reese Witherspoon, I have more confidence to tell people my dreams (see my article titled “The Art of Beauty”).
Those are the things that you would SEE if you visited me. But if you really want to get to know me, you need to talk to me. If we talked, you would find out the things that I care most about like education for girls in third world countries, building self-esteem for girls, music, theater, my family and friends. I think that as you read my blog this year, you will come to know me. I would love the chance to get to know you too. Please feel free to post comments. I would love to know what you are thinking! I am looking forward to a great year!
