No, darlings, I’m not changing the day. But I have to do this.
Today (this is a scheduled post, mind you) I’m going to see the Schiaparelli and Prada exhibit at the Metroplitan in NYC, so I thought I’d show you what you’re missing out on by not visiting with me.
The exhibit is divided into seven sections: “Waist Up/Waist Down”, “Ugly Chic”, “Hard Chic”, “Naif Chic”, “The Classical Body”, “The Exotic Body”, and “The Surreal Body.”
Each part of the exhibit shows the similarities and differences in each designer’s work; for example, Prada tends to focus of the waist down, whereas Schiaparelli did the opposite. This compare/contrast method of exhibiting the clothing was done because the profiles of Prada and Schiaparelli are very similar: female, Italian, fashion designer. People wanted to see these designers’ clothes next to each other to see how Prada was influenced by Schiaparelli, and such like.
I find it fascinating how similar their work is, actually. Though they seem to do the opposites sometimes (waist up/waist down), I find it difficult to believe that Prada was not heavily influenced by Elsa Schiaparelli, especially looking at some of the comparisons the Met has on their website.
Also, Tavi Gevinson (my girl crush) and Iris Apfel had a conversation and now it’s a video. Exciting! Okay, I’m going to watch an hour of Tavi talking now. Bye!
