What do you want most this Christmas?
This Christmas I want the gift of music. I’ve recently been hearing a lot of good songs by the Clash on the radio, and I’ve had my eye on the Essential Clash. I’m a bit of a Luddite, so I still listen to CDs. Also, I would like a CD of the songs from Les Miserables (before the movie comes out) and a T-shirt of the Mighty Boosh’s Tony Harrison (a tentacled shaman who screams “This is an outrage!” whenever things go awry). That’s it. I’m not greedy.
But I wouldn’t say no to a chocolate Santa.
I would be happy to find a big stack of books under our tree and absolutely nothing else (though a Rookie t-shirt would not be bad at all), but the book I want the most is a collection of the poetry of Valentine Ackland, who was just really cool. She used to dress androgynously and be mistaken for a handsome boy. Her life was fascinating (just read her Wikipedia page), and I’m sure her poetry will be too.
To be honest, every year I think I’ve constructed my Christmas list closer and closer to Christmas (which annoys my family). However, this year, the No. 1 spot on my Christmas list is occupied by three words: Staedtler colored pencils.
It sounds odd but, from the moment I opened my first box, I fell in love with these colored pencils. The color quality is great and never has the tip of any of these colored pencils broken while I’m coloring. I’m no professional artist and my artistic ability is amateur at best, but that makes no difference to me. A pack of these and a few pieces of paper are enough to make me happy for a while.
There’s only one thing on my mind that I can’t get my hands on myself. FUN concert tickets! They are having a show in Washington D.C. in January, and I had my eyes on the tickets. But I couldn’t buy them at school and immediately following school, I had work for five hours. They were $35, but after work, they were all sold out. Now, each ticket is about $100…I am currently finding ways to drop subtle hints to my mom.
