Fast-food chains have become an American staple. Generations have grown up eating stereotypically greasy and unhealthy food. However, within the past several years, the yearning for burgers and fries might have waned. Many people want food that’s whole- some, yet served quickly.
Chipotle Mexican Grill has perfected the art of convenient, fast and inexpensive. Most of the menu items cost $5 to $6. Chipotle started as one restaurant in Denver, Colo., but the company now has eateries in nearly every state. According to its website, Chipotle aims to serve “food with integrity” and use the “best ingredients, raised with respect for the animals, the environment and the farmers.”
The restaurant features an open kitchen, assembly line style — you tell the employees what you want and watch them put it in a burrito, burrito bowl, taco, quesadilla or salad. Filling options include naturally raised, antibiotic-free meats, organic beans, rice, fajita peppers, fresh salsas, corn, sour cream, cheese, lettuce and guacamole.
Chipotle also takes initiative in being environmentally friendly in many ways. For example, all napkins are made from 100-percent recycled paper products. Chipotle advertises its backing of farmers by stating, “we support and sustain family farmers who respect the land and the animals in their care.”
