Sexist Post of the Day: A meme altercation

I think I am pushing all my close friends away due to my unfortunate recent rants about sexism in everyday life. Indeed, it might be a crime to impolitely annoy my friends who don’t always want to hear a feminist lecture, but I think it might be a worse crime to simply ignore the unnoticed inequality in society that pervades every moment of all our lives. Because of these habits, a close friend sent me an interesting meme. For those of you who don’t know, a meme is like a viral photo with captions to go along with the meme’s character. I am not a huge fan of them, but they can quickly transfer ideas in a humorous, efficient way.

This is Scumbag Girl, mostly used to describe an unlikeable girl who does things that are simply “unbearable.” Feminism, for whatever reason, is never portrayed in a flattering light, but this agitated me, because this goes beyond the scope of feminism.

I replied to my friends with two memes, and one caption: “Your choice.”

The meme on the left is Scumbag Steve, a meme that represents the typical inconsiderate idiot and his annoying actions, or in this case, illegal actions. The meme under Scumbag Steve is Good Guy Greg, smoking a cigarette to represent his kind, good-natured personality and everything he does to help others.

Looking back, I shouldn’t have captioned it “Doesn’t condone men or women hitting each other.” More accurately, it should be “Doesn’t condone humans hurting each other.”  I sympathize with men in that they are stuck with the stigma that they must endure domestic abuse from a woman because they must maintain manhood and strength, but that certainly would never excuse a man hitting a woman.

Let me be clear; it’s equally horrifying when a women somehow finds it justified to hit a man. Regardless of gender, can we all just agree to not needlessly hit each other to prove points that could be otherwise be proven with, I don’t know, words?
