Doodling Made Easy

| | Comments (0)

What's fun about doodling on paper? You draw when you're bored and then what? Throw the paper away, right? It is just a cute little piece of artwork that just sits there.

Now there's www.linerider.com, where your doodles come alive. You can draw whatever you want on an infinite sheets of "paper."

When you're finished, click play, and a cute little guy on a sled will ride on your doodle. He can even ride on your name.

There are tools to create scenery lines that he won't ride as well as an eraser and zooming tools. If you absolutely love your creation, there is an option to save it for later.

Linerider.com is a great site to solve boredom or procrastinate from work.

To virtual shoppers everywhere...

| | Comments (0)

True, window shopping is one of my favorite pastimes, especially when wisps of warm weather begin to head our way. There is nothing like walking down a colorful sidewalk while peering into store windows stocked full of blooming trends and irresistible sales. But another kind of shopping gained popularity recently. The Internet brought with it the era of online shopping, opening up a whole new set of clientele for retailers everywhere.
Kudos to Lucky magazine for allowing me to discover www.lamadesigns.com, a festive, inspirational online boutique that brings a spice of Latin American culture to our virtual shopping bags.
Owned by a spunky, adventurous young woman, LAMA (Latin America in the Modern Age) offers a diverse selection of cultural merchandise including everything from handmade "pillow" earrings to turquoise serving dishes. Clicking on one link leads to whimsical soap scents, another unearths unusual home décor. The funky aesthetics of the site add to its spontaneity and cheerfulness; miniature white llamas bedeck a blue background while intricate designs and more llamas appear with a swirl of your mouse.
The site originated when the owner, according her bio, began a journey through lesser-known Latin America in search of undiscovered artisans and design prodigies. Her findings continue to appear on the Web site, showcasing these unusual styles to a world once ignorant to them.
Not only is this site a place to purchase rare, ethnic merchandise, it serves as a doorway from one cultural into a completely different one.

See Words in Clouds

| | Comments (0)

Wordle.net is a site for people who are looking to be entertained for hours. It creates word clouds, arrangements of words in different directions, fonts, and colors that look like carefully arranged puzzles.

Users provide the text via a word box, a URL to a blog or blog feed, or a del.icio.us user name. The text can be anything from a favorite song, poem, or words that describe a person or object. Once the text is submitted, the program randomly arranges the words. The user can then change the wordle by altering the font, color, or layout. There are more than 25 fonts available and a variety of unique color schemes that range from blue meets orange to chilled summer and even dull candy.

Once users are completely satisfied with their creation, which often takes a good 20 minutes to complete, the wordle can be printed and/or submitted to the gallery, where it is accessible to others.

Wordles can be used for many things. Students can use the word clouds as a creative visual aid or simply to decorate a bland locker. They look sophisticated enough to be given as a gift to show appreciation and affection or to simply put a smile on a friend's face.

I don't watch The O.C.. I don't think I'd like The O.C.. But I sure do love the YouTube videos spoofing their "Dear Sister" episode. For some reason, I find this one especially funny. Maybe because it's Disney.

Pandora is free radio that selects stations based on what kind of bands or songs you like. Type in "Radiohead" once you easily get your free account, and you'll first see a small analysis of Radiohead and a heads up that bands with similar analyses are on deck after the song you're currently listening to. So not only will you get to hear In Rainbows and OK Computer for free, but you'll also hear bands like them that you may never have heard of before.

MEEE - about Angela Marie Flynn

| | Comments (0)

Hey I'm Angela Marie Flynn. I go to Agora Cyber Charter school now, but I'm probably going to be changing schools for high school. Anyway, I'm going to be a Freshman in the fall.

I love music. I'm in a rock band, I sing, and I know more rock bands than the 12 year old entrepreneur around the corner. From old school punk, to emo, to classical, altern to folk, to Indian, to anything. My Chemical Romance to Billy Joel to Led Zeppelin. indie stuff too, local stuff too. I love writing reviews and I do have a well-developed taste if I do say so myself. Haha, kidding, I'm not like an ego monster or anything. But my dream (one of them) is to have my current band go far...maybe signed onto a label even. Ah, heaven. But in the meantime I annoy people by humming while I do anything...and with my awful voice singing when im supposed to be doing more important stuff.

Sportswise, i love basketball and I used to do fencing. Skateboarding is my thing even if I'm not too good at it myself (my friends are, not me). I want to be sponsored someday when I get good (another dream...). I love hanging out with friends, going to parties and dances with them, going to concerts and just having fun. I also love to write, although I've had a little bit of writer's block when it comes to fiction. I bet non-fiction would help that. I wish I had pets but I don't...I used to have a snake but it ran away. Sorry.

Haha I was reading Madi's entry and I kind of am a TV junkie too, but movies and stuff also. I usually watch whatever my parents are watching. I'm usually too lazy to change it.
How I applied for Teen Takeover was that I saw it in the newspaper. At first, 'cause I've been having this nagging writer's block, I was like uhhh, but I signed up and I thank the newspaper for accepting me. :) Well, thanks for listening to my rambling! Hope it helped.
Peace, guys.

'THE CAB'...Not just another pop-emo band

NOT Death Cab For Cutie...just "The Cab." Though Death Cab For Cutie's new album is spectacular, The Cab has music deserving of attention as well...
The Cab's music is a diamond in the rough.

Photos on Facebook and MySpace

| | Comments (1)

There's been a lot of discussion the past couple weeks about students at York Catholic being caught drinking underage. Some of that discussion has revolved around the pictures posted to social networking sites of teens who appear to be at parties where alcohol was being served.

In an article in the York Sunday News, education reporter Nichole Dobo wrote: Experts say many teens don't realize why or how posting images online can hurt them. There are countless stories about young people losing jobs, internships or school privileges because of information they posted about themselves on Internet sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

The Daily Record received photos (sent anonymously) of teens at what appear to be drinking parties, with notes expressing that the sender hoped the photos would be published.

What do you guys think. Is it fair for jobs and schools to punish you for things published on your Facebook and MySpace accounts?

How careful are you when posting to these sites?

Sara Bareilles' album, "Little Voice," was released in July and promptly became the No. 1 most-downloaded CD on iTunes.

You are more than a test score."

This is the motto for www.zinch.com, a Web site focused on letting college admissions counselors see more than "just a test score" from students for free.

Essentially a MySpace for admissions counselors, Zinch allows students who are not adept at test-taking to show another side of themselves through a Zinch profile.

Rilo Kiley's 'Silver Lining'

| | Comments (0)

From their latest album, "Under the Blacklight," Rilo Kiley's "Silver Lining" offers something new for the group. With a '70s feel, the song has a catchy beat and is super easy to get into. Lead singer Jenny Lewis experiments with her voice in this song, making her sound kind of "gospel-y" at times, but it keeps you interested.

It is definitely worth spending $.99 on iTunes!
