Clowns invade York!

| | Comments (0)

Last week on the way home from a wedding in Penn State, my Dad and I saw an unusual site. As we were waiting for the light to turn from red to green, I looked behind me and saw a car with some unusual passengers...Clowns!

I'm not sure if the circus was in town or if they were headed to some crazy Halloween party but either way look out 'cause there are Clowns on the loose!

Halloween...for teens?

| | Comments (0)

Trick or treat!

Those three words fill the streets once a year on the last day of October. Kids of all ages walk through neighborhoods decked out in all sorts of costumes from vampires to superheroes. No house is left unchecked as children run from street to street ringing door bells and lugging bags or candy; that grow increasingly heavy as the night progresses. But at what age should the magic fade- if any? When should kids grow up and leave trick or treating to a younger generation? For many teens that question still has no answer as they continue to go out with friends and ring doorbell after doorbell in search of candy.

But is that right? While it may not impact the lives of people in the community it is still an issue worth pondering. It may be great to see teens having fun and running around but at some point the illusion dies and all that's left is grown "kids" in too tight costumes. It's kind of like the Dad that tries to be young and "hip" and buys himself that muscle car that he's convinced will make him look 20 years younger. The reality is that no one's fooled. Whether it be a car or a costume, objects don't hide your age- they only emphasize it. Eventually the costumes just don't fit. Even though it may be fun to pretend to be 10 again and run around in a Cinderella costume, at some point everyone needs to make the transition from getting candy to handing it out.

Back to School!

Well, I officially survived the first week of tenth grade! My high school started back on Wednesday and I'm already overwhelmed. The courses for this year definitely look tough, but it's exciting to be challenged at the same time. However, teachers are already piling on the homework. I guess it's their way of welcoming the students back to school. A plus though is being able to reconnect with friends you lost touch with over the summer, there's always so much to catch up on. I think the biggest shock to everyone is how the summer flew by so quickly! It feels like just last week I was sitting out back by the pool; oh wait, I was! But all good things have to end at some point, so for now it's goodbye summer and hello fall.

Me+not being able to see= BAD

Yesterday I felt like I was blind. Seriously, I couldn't see anything, it was terrible.

What's the Big Deal?

| | Comments (0)

I finally saw "The Dark Knight." But I was sorely disappointed. My expectations were obviously much too high, for the movie was certainly not my cup of tea. I'm just curious why America was so quick to slurp it up.

The Joker symbolized a twisted mind, a very sorrowful one. His maniacal grin still sends chills up my spine. And a child's hero was beaten down, forever sneered upon by an imaginary society.

I would much rather watch silver screen greats such as Cary Grant and Joan Crawford as they appeal to the intellectual, not the violent. But everyone's different, I suppose.

The Top 5 Things I Love About the Holidays

I am so excited for Christmas! I know that this is what everyone is thinking, but seriously, I am bouncing of the walls. I decided to make a little list of the things I love most about Christmas....

Cyst for Christmas

| | Comments (1)

On Wednesday this week, I started to feel a sharp pain in my foot. By Thursday, my foot was throbbing and I was in pain! I had this huge lump sticking out of my vein on the top of my foot. So I went to the doctor Saturday before a five-hour softball clinic and found out I have what is called a Ganglion Cyst. It's basically a liquid build-up in a nerve on the top of the foot called the Ganglion nerve. Anyway, it is really disgusting and if it doesn't go away within a week, I'll have to get it drained with a needle. Considering I haven't gotten a shot since I was five, I am very nervous!!

It's the Thought that Counts... Right?

So I am in a bit of a pickle. It's about 10 days till the last day of school before holiday break and I am stuck. I want to get presents for my friends but I don't know what to get. I've lingered over the basics, but I just can't think of anything good.

Almost Over

As I am sitting here, I can't help but think that its almost over. Not the end of the world or anything, just Thanksgiving break.

No Time...Pas de Temps.

| | Comments (1)

My lack of posting recently on here actually proves what I'm feeling right now...there is not enough time in a day/week/year/life to do all that you want. Between sports, friends, family, birthdays, parties, holidays, school, work etc. how do I squeeze out excess time to just chill, relax (or do this blog!).
It's ridiculous in fact...my parents at my age were not this busy. Is it because we've got more at our fingertips? Is it because times are different now in this technology savvy world? Whatever it is, it's great at stealing my minutes...and it's not even a phone company. Anyway, is anyone else feeling like time isn't as abundant as it should be? Or am I alone?

Writer's Block

| | Comments (1)

I love to write. In fact, I would like to pursue it as a career. But at the moment I am experiencing the infamous writer's block. It is possibly because of the amount I must write at the moment: two stories for my school newspaper, a paper for a college course I am taking, and an essay for my college applications. My ideas are running thin. My biggest worry is the college essay: how much consideration does the college put into the essay? If it is too "fluffy: while they think I am a bad applicant? Anyway, I just need inspiration...something that relieves the WRITER'S BLOCK. Maybe something that will write the perfect essay for me...

Tired of Reality TV

| | Comments (1)

Flipping through the channels on any evening, a person is guaranteed to find at least a dozen reality TV shows. Why does viewing America constantly need to see people competing against one another on national TV trying to earn money or some other type of ludacris prize? Yes, some of these shows are amusing, but the arguing, anger, and nastiness of the players is incessant, and gets old extremely fast. And the enormous irony of it all is its name: "reality TV." I don't think TV can get any farther from "real." Do people in the "real" world live on a deserted island for months on end like heathens to compete for money? Do people in the "real" world gossip about their roomates to a camera to be watched by millions of people? (Ok, YouTube might make that possible for real people, I admit.) Oh, and one of my favorites, does one "real" man date a dozen girls at a time to see which one he likes best and gets rid of the ones he doesn't? Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but this ridiculous form of TV doesn't seem very real to me; I would much rather interact with the real people in my life than watch the lives of others on my TV.

Tis the season to get excited for the Holidays. Every year around this time I get anxious for Christmas. The holiday season is the best time of year. Not only is everyone so full of joy, but also the music played is feel good music. I have already begun to make my list, due to a traffic jam on the way back from dropping my brother off at UNC. My list contains several items such as: Chocolate Ugg boots (those boots are the most comfortable shoes ever made, the best way to describe them is heaven for your feet) and the entire Friends collection.

105 days until Christmas!

AGH Kids! (can't live with them, or without them)

| | Comments (0)

I volunteered for my churches vacation bible school this year. But, I think I signed up for a little more then I bargained for. We have a little more then a hundred kids in our church right now and things are a little hectic. All the kids are taking over the church. Its funny cause there only first, second, and third graders. I thinks there's a really big gap between our generation and there's. They have no discipline what's so ever. The kids have no respect for older generations, and no regards for punishments. I feel like a old person going on and on about how this generation is bad. I love kids don't get me wrong. But I think they reminded me of how spoiled we are and America is, and just shows how big the gap is. From my grandparents generation, to my parents, to me, and to younger generations. I don't know, what do you guys think?

Summertime

| | Comments (0)

I am currently sunk in a leather chair that I have spent the past week sitting in. While at volleyball camp two weeks ago I badly sprained my ankle causing me to be on crutches for two weeks. For all of the lucky people who have never been on crutches, after two days it is no longer fun to swing around on them.

best friend...if they still exist

| | Comments (4)

The past week hasn't been great for me in the 'friend' department. I'm not writing to pour my feelings and stuff out, I'm just throwing the idea out there.
How can someone who you've known for years and shared so many great times with just throw it all away like it was nothing or meant nothing to either of you? It makes me feel like I had the wrong impression of how close we were...why would you want to just act like it never happened? What is wrong with you?
Why wouldn't you want to rekindle what was lost? Why are you this upset? Where did the person I knew and loved go? I am confused and don't understand...uhhhh life.

Ugh Schools Almost Here

| | Comments (4)

With school all to quickly approaching, things can be a little stressful and hectic. I almost dread going into Target and Wal-Mart now because they are putting all the school supplies and stuff out. I hate being reminded of school during summer. With magazines, television commercials, daily trips to the store, it just seems you can't get away from the idea that school is almost here. Hope everyone has a great rest of summer, and long live summer!!!

So, the deadline for the main article is due in a week, and I can't think of a good way to open it. Well, I know I want to open it with a story, but I don't know how to open that... And I have a hour of tape here from an interview (and there's more where that came from)...

PS - Yay for the Music Man reference.

42 FOR SHNOZZ: LAST SHOW TOMORROW NIGHT

| | Comments (0)

The central PA pop rock band will be parting ways after the final show tomorrow night at the Strand Capitol. Local favorites have played numerous times in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and will end their two year successful run. The band has split due to altercations between the band members and will not announce what the altercations were.

Brittany's Brain

| | Comments (1)

So I see it's been a few days since the last post so I thought I'd add some fun nonsense to the blog.

1. Dylan, that video is quite possibly the best thing that's happened to me all week. Every time I see something like that it makes me even more thankful for Youtube.

2. I miss Katy. I received her email the other day that stated that she was leaving YDR for good, and I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say that she will be missed.

3. I am a bit baffled by all of the 'straight or gay?' talk surrounding Dumbledore. Yes, I am a Harry Potter fan, but I have not even started the final book yet. Does that banish me from the HP fan club?

4. College applications are driving me crazy. However, there is one good thing that came out of the whole process: I learned my social security number. I had no idea what is was before, but having to write it a million times finally embeds it into your brain.

5. It's been quite rainy lately, and I have to say, I liked it. People always tell me I'm crazy when I say that I like dark and dreary days, but I actually prefer them.

6. I am making Christmas cookies on Tuesday. This may seem a bit odd, since it isn't even Halloween yet, but all the editors for our school's entertainment magazine have to make a batch for a contest.

There you go, that's what's going through my head right now. What odd things are all of you thinking about?
