Maybe Fairfield's football team can go home again.
The Green Knights originally planned on playing all their games on the road this season because of construction delays at their stadium.
Fairfield coach Stu Mackintosh was told this week that the stadium should be finished in time for the Knights to host York County Tech in their final game of the year on Nov. 5.
The school has rescheduled homecoming for the same weekend.
Fairfield has also worked out a deal with New Oxford allowing the Knights to host Rockwood Area, a Western Pennsylvania school, at New Oxford on Oct. 8, Mackintosh said. By hosting the game at the neutral site, Fairfield avoids making the three-hour bus trip two years in a row.
"Everybody likes having a home game, getting the community out," Mackintosh said. "It’s a big deal."
The chance to wear their home green jerseys is important for his players, Mackintosh said.
For starters, it means one fewer bus ride. Friday's game at Bermudian Springs was the only time the Knights have had to travel less than an hour to play.
Because of all the driving involved required to be a Fairfield fan, Mackintosh's team has received little fan support this season.
Not that practically needing a travel agent has held the Knights back. In the program's third year, Fairfield has already doubled the school record for victories in a season, with two.
