A great day for running in York

Isaac Arusei of Kenya cruised to a 51-second victory in the 29th annual York White Rose 5-Mile Run for Diversity, Equality and Non-Violence on Saturday.

Arusei finished the event in 24:17, well ahead of second-place finisher Oleksandr Kuzin of Ukraine (25:08). The race began and finished at Continental Square in downtown York.

The women’s winner was Samia Akbar of Herndon, Va., whose time was 27:33. Second place went to Russia’s Larisa Michailova (28:12)

American women have won 26 of the 29 White Rose Runs, while Arusei became the 10th African male to win in the past 11 races.

On the men’s side, York’s Kevin Stover was the top local finisher, placing third in 26:11. In fourth place was York’s Greg Cauller, 46, who was the Masters (40+) champion and set a new age-group record with his time of 26:27 in the 45-to-49 group. The old mark had been 27:08, set by Ben Hyser in 1981.

On the women’s side, York’s Vicki Cauller was the top local finisher, placing third in 28:42. Other local women in the top 10 included Gettysburg’s Lauren Passell (sixth), York’s Laura Grey (eighth), York’s Emily Forrey (ninth) and York’s Dianna Golden (10th).

Mike Zwatty of Etters was eighth overall on the men’s side, while Patrick Hickey of York was 11th.

wow Emily Forrey is amazing! I heard she is only 12 years old. You guys should really try and get more on her. It will up your website ratings alot. She could go BIG!!!
