Tamba Hali has earned his fourth national player of the week award for his dominating performance against Wisconsin, staff writer Frank Bodani reports.
Hali, a senior defensive end, most recently was selected USA Today.com Player of the Week, earning 32 percent of the 24,791 votes cast for five candidates since Sunday night.
The All-America candidate previously had been named national player of the week by The Sporting News and SportsIllustrated.com and the Walter Camp Foundation. He also was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Hali tied a school record with four sacks and a career-best five tackles for loss in the victory over Wisconsin.
He also is one of four candidates for the Cingular/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Week. Fans have until Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. to submit their votes via wireless text messaging. The winner will be announced Thursday in the first half of ESPN’s college football game between Boise State and Fresno State. To vote, text “VOTE� to “87654� on your wireless phone.
