Staff writer Jeff Frantz explains why you should leave early if you're going to the girls' volleyball or football events at Central York on Saturday....
If you’re planning to attend Central York’s first District 3 football home playoff game on Saturday night, Central athletic director Marty Trimmer has a message for you: Get there early.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., but fans will be allowed to enter the stadium at 4:30 p.m.
About 5,000 fans showed up for band night on Sept. 30, which left the stadium at standing-room only and forced cars to park on the grass after the school’s large parking lot filled, Trimmer said.
He expects a even bigger turnout Saturday.
“We have a good following, (Carlisle) has a good following, plus it’s the only District 3 game of the night, so football fans from the York and Harrisburg area will be there, Trimmer said. “If you want a seat, get there early, otherwise you’ll have to stand.
To compound the problem, the PIAA girls’ volleyball championships are scheduled to be finishing up in Central’s gym at the same time football fans begin to arrive.
Trimmer doesn’t expect there to be many volleyball fans at Central at the end of the day, but with parking at a premium, every spot counts.
A suggestion? Arrive early and watch the best volleyball the state has to offer. Then walk over to the stadium to claim your seat. It makes for a perfect sports day.
