Just a little more intensity

As if a rematch of the best regular-season game wasn’t enough for fans to clamor about, there’s also a bit of controversy leading up to Thursday night’s YAIAA boys' basketball tournament title game between Red Lion and York Catholic. (7 p.m. at Dallastown)

It goes back to the fourth quarter of their initial meeting on Jan. 28, a game the Fighting Irish won 69-61 at York Catholic.

Tempers were hot and players from both sides had talked trash throughout the game. Red Lion players Noel Vega and Cory Bray were both involved in incidents that later resulted in one-game suspensions, after Red Lion administrators reviewed the video.

“Sometimes things transpire in a game that can cause emotions to run high, said Red Lion coach Parrish Petry, who added that he has not reviewed the video of the incidents in question. “I think both teams were guilty of doing things that weren’t in the best interest of the game.

Both head coaches say the incidents are in the past, and they think their teams will focus on winning Thursday. In fact, neither said they plan on addressing the "extracurricular activity" from the Jan. 28 game again.

“I just told our kids you can’t retaliate, York Catholic coach Jim Senft said. “I wasn’t happy with our kids' behavior after it happened, so we just have to move on.
