Tuesday was not a good day for Dallastown’s boys’ track team.
The Wildcats dropped a duel meet with South Western 85-65 — and Dylan Hoffman was scratched from 300-meter hurdles with back trouble. Earlier in the day, he finished second in the 110 hurdles.
“(Tuesday) I was just in a lot of pain, Hoffman said. “I can’t even lift my legs off the track. That’s how much pain I’m in.
Hoffman’s back has bothered him for the past few weeks. An X-ray Monday came back negative, Hoffman said. He is scheduled to undergo and MRI today.
Coming off a sixth-place finish in the District 3 championships last year, Hoffman had big expectations coming into the season. Through the first two years of his career, his times were faster than those of his older brother David Hoffman — who now runs for Duke — at the same age.
The back injury, however, has put this season on hold.
At this point, Hoffman said he hopes the MRI will reveal something so that he can begin treatment.
His coach, Tim Barshinger, hasn’t started planning for Dylan’s senior year yet.
“We’ll see how it plays out with the injury, but certainly if he’s able to get back into the season in the next week or two he can have a good end to it, Barshinger said. “I’m not ruling him out of anything.
