While area graduates head all over the U.S. for school, work or the military, Ryan King is most likely the only local kid headed to Alpena, Mich.

The soon-to-be York Suburban grad has signed on to play forward for the Alpena Icediggers of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), Junior A level.

King will head out to a training/try-out camp in July, come home for a couple of weeks, then head back for the season in mid-August.

King spent the last two seasons playing in Philadelphia with the Junior Flyers AAA team. In 2005-06, he scored 11 goals and seven assists in 24 games.

King, who is 6-foot, 195 pounds, also played all four of his high school seasons for York Suburban’s team in the CPIHL, and led the Trojans with 35 goals and 11 assists in 16 games as a senior.
