Tell me, when does this Leo Mazzone factor kick in?

We heard how Atlanta’s old pitching guru worked wonders for the Braves, making so-so pitchers look great. And great pitchers look like Hall of Famers.

But Leo’s tenure in Charm City isn’t so rosy. Baltimore has six pitchers who have started at least three games this year, and as of last Thursday, Daniel Cabrera led the staff with a 4.13 ERA.

It doesn’t help that the Orioles have assembled a boring cast of position players who are either:

A) past their prime (Roll call: Kevin Millar, Jeff Conine, Javy Lopez ...)

B) or mediocre at best (Roll call: Jay Gibbons, Luis Matos ...)

That’s not how you win baseball games. Even in its lean years, Atlanta knew it needed offense — and it brought it in.

Yep, Leo’s gonna have to earn every penny he makes in Baltimore.
