The Penn State football team received its ninth verbal commitment on Monday — a football player with tremendous speed but not a lot of recruiting hype.
Stephfon Green (5-foot-11, 185 pounds) is a multiposition player from the Bronx in New York City who was timed at 4.29 seconds over 40 yards at a Penn State football camp this summer.
“He’s under the radar right now because people don’t know much about him, but 4.2 speed doesn’t grow on trees, said Bob Lichtenfels of Scout.com, a national recruiting service.
Green starred as a running back at JFK High, running for more than 1,000 yards last fall, but he could also play receiver or cornerback or return kicks and punts. “Plus, he’s got world-class speed, Lichtenfels said.
The Lions figure to have 15 to 18 scholarships available for their recruiting class, which won’t be finalized until February.
